"There is no understanding without knowledge, no compassion without understanding, no love without compassion, and no peace without love."
Drew - Founder of Abbason
About Abbason
Abbason began in 1999 when Drew, one of our founders, was traveling in Asia and witnessed differing cultures sharing the same communities, but also sharing great misunderstandings about each other. There appeared to be a lack of willingness to cross cultural barriers or attempt to understand other people and their way of life. Upon return to the US he understood that the problem was universal. This knowledge touched his heart and life and he began the work of researching to understand and then trying to cross some of these cultural obstacles.
September 11, 2001, a date that is well known throughout the world…9-11. From a Western perspective, this experience woke the US from a daze and shook the world. The events of that day and the many days that followed showed that a cross-cultural understanding and open dialogue were dearly needed. Abbason was created in 2003 to help meet that need
Our Mission.
Abbason seeks, both in the US and globally, to encourage cross cultural dialogue and understanding between people groups and cultures through research, education, events, and experiences.
Research, to increase cross-cultural knowledge and promote better understanding between peoples.
Education, to pass knowledge on to others so they may gain a desire to cross the cultural barriers and reach out.
Events, to allow people to network and dialogue in order to promote better understanding.
Experiences, to give opportunities to come into contact with differing people and cultures and learn from those experiences.
